Hearing loss Family
Outreach Conference
at the White Station
Church of Christ
this Saturday August
28th. We had one
interpreter
scheduled, but have
received
registration forms
from 2 parents that
are Deaf. We are in
great need for a
second interpreter.
The interpreting
would be from 9 am
to 10:15 session and
then a parent panel
that is from 10:45
to 12:00 and then
the last session is
from 1:45 pm to 3:00
pm. This conference
is a much needed
resource for parents
of the Deaf and Hard
of Hearing. If you
can possibly help us
out, or know of
another interpreter
that can help us
out, we would be so
grateful. Lunch
will be provided.

MCBDA - September 4th “Just want to inform the community that
MCBDA, Inc. [Memphis Chapter of Black Deaf Advocates] will have their
Labor Day picnic on September 4, 2010 at the Eternal mercy Lutheran
Church for the Deaf (4327 Elvis Presley Blvd)”
Cost: Adults – 13yrs.. $10
Children 7-12 yrs $3.00
Children 6 and under are free
We will have lots of foods (BBQ ribs, hot dogs, smoke sausage,
hamburgers, potato salads, bake beans, spaghetti, cord on cob, slaw,
cakes, drinks, water, watermelon)….and games: volleyball, horse shoes,
egg walk, racings and more. We will have door prizes .
FYI, MCBDA, Inc. meets every first Saturday of the months when there are
no conflicts. We meet at Eternal Mercy Lutheran Church for the Deaf at
4:30 pm. Sometimes we have a little social and fellowships with foods
and games after the meetings. Everyone is invited.”

is exciting. We are, at Forest Hill, the only theater to offer the "REAR
WINDOW" closed captioning system. It has proven very successful and the
hearing impaired patrons that have used it have expressed great ease in
doing so. This week the romantic comedy The Bounty Hunter
will be showing in Theater 8 (the only theater currently with the
system). The movie that shows in Theater 8 changes on a week by week
basis, so if you shoot an email every Wednesday addressed to me I will
be happy to tell you what movie is playing in Theater 8 that coming

the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Topic: "Cyber Communication:
Progress or Problem?" -- The
Communication Contest for
the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
is for young people up to
and including grade 12 in
the United States and
Canada, to CEGEP in Quebec
and grade 13 in the
Caribbean, who are
identified by a qualified
audiologist as deaf or hard
of hearing. Students
interested in participating
in the contest must submit
an audiogram completed
within 24 months of the date
of the contest by a
qualified audiologist.
Students must have a hearing
loss of 40 decibels or more
to be eligible to compete.
Students may use sign
language, oral presentation
or a combination of both.
Contests run at various
times in each state/province
but conclude by late May.
Club prize: Medallion -
District prize: Plaque and
$2,500 college scholarship
for first-place winner. --
