On Saturday, June 28th, 2008, Tracey and
Paula Hamblin, sisters from Mississippi, were recognized on center court
for their Olympic achievements during a half-time ceremony at the
WNBA Chicago Sky Game . Both were surprised by this ceremony
which occurred during a visit to a cousin residing in Chicago. The
sisters were members of the Women's USA Deaflympic Basketball team.
Both were
gold medal winners, with Paula receiving gold in the 1993, 1997
and 2001 Deaflympic Games as well as the 1999 Pan Am Games. Tracey also
received a
Gold medal in the 1997 Deaflympic Games.
The Hamblin sisters were also members of
multiple USA Deaf
Basketball (USADB) teams where between the
two of them they won 10 national championships.
Paula recently being a major part of the Arizona Black Widow's third
straight USADB championship.
Paula is currently contemplating either
one more season with the Black Widows Arizona or retiring to coach the
Little Rock, Arkansas women team.
These two Olympians got their start
at the state of
Mississippi , playing
high school ball at
Calhoun Academy where they were state champions in 1984 and runner-up to
the state title 1983. Paula and her team were runner-up state title in
1985. Tracey graduated from Calhoun Academy in 1984 and Paula graduated
from Hatley High School in 1985. Both are graduates of
Blue Mountain College. |
